Yes, quitting smoking the way that most doctors recommend can be very dangerous to you health. In fact most of these methods can make you very sick. There are some serious health risks. They are NOT natural and they are not safe. And worse yet, THEY DON’T WORK ! NOT a Smart Way to Quit.
These mostly ineffective and sometimes dangerous methods include nicotine replacement therapy also called NRT. Nicotine replacement therapies can be anything that has nicotine in it. There is also Zyban and now Chantix. In 96% of all cases, people using properly prescribed medical treatments of nicotine replacement therapy will return to smoking. In fact nicotine replacement therapy has the same success rate as cold turkey about 4%. No wonder you never stood a chance!
Lets look first at the virtually ineffective types of nicotine replacement therapy:
- nicotine gum, which is available over-the-counter or by prescription
- nicotine inhalers, which are available by prescription
- nicotine nasal spray, which is given by prescription
- nicotine patches, which are available over-the-counter in various strengths
The theory here is that these products replace the nicotine the person would have gotten from a cigarette. The direct effect from nicotine is supposed to be the same. If that’s really the case then why the serious side effects? Something is just so not right here.
A person using nicotine replacement products should not continue to smoke. Yet many do. Nicotine can cause serious medical problems, including death, if it is abused. Nicotine replacement products are not recommended in certain situations such as:
- people who have had a heart attack within the past 2 week
- people who have serious arrhythmias, or irregular heartbeats
- people who have angina, the chest pain associated with heart disease
- women who are pregnant, unless their healthcare provider recommends it
Is it really worth the risks? What if you have health problems and don’t know it? After all, you’ve been smoking for how many years?
The patch often causes skin irritation. Another side effect is wild dreams. Many people also experience headaches and joint pains. This doesn’t sound like it’s easy or fun.
Nicotine gum often causes mouth, tongue, and throat irritation. It may also cause an arrhythmia and palpitations. Swallowing the gum can cause nausea or vomiting. This isn’t something anyone would look forward to experiencing.
The nasal spray causes irritation of the nose and throat, watering eyes, sneezing, and coughing. Sounds like you’re still smoking!
The most common side effect of the nicotine inhaler is irritation of the lining of the mouth and throat. Many people may experience cough, runny nose, or nausea.
Then there is Zyban and Chantix. Now I know that everything works for some but in this case they DO NOT WORK for most. If they did everyone would use them and most smokers would quit easily.
Zyban, or bupropion, has been approved by the FDA for smoking cessation. It was originally used for mental health patients. It isn’t coincidental that 95% of them smoke. It was observed that many of them gave up smoking while on this prescription drug designed for mind problems and emotional issues. The side effect is that a person feels less of an urge to smoke. It was never designed or intended for stop smoking.
The most common side effects of Zyban include dry mouth and insomnia. If side effects occur, they are generally mild and disappear within a few weeks. Another popular one! And only a few weeks of anxiety, shaking, dizziness, insomnia and rashes!
The United States Federal Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a Public Health Advisory about the increased risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors by people taking the smoking-cessation drug varenicline (Chantrix). This warning comes after confirming that 39 suicides have occurred in patients taking varenicline (Chantrix). Eighty-seven percent of those suicides have occurred in the United States. These numbers have only increased over time since this data is from a few years ago.
More specifically, the FDA is saying that serious psychiatric symptoms have occurred in patients taking Chantix. These include: changes in behavior, agitation, depressed mood, suicidal ideation, and attempted and completed suicide.
Reports of traffic accidents by users have prompted federal regulators to take another look at the safety information on the Chantix label. Word of the latest Food & Drug Administration (FDA) review comes just days after a non-profit drug research group released a report that found, in the first quarter of 2008, the FDA received more serious side effect reports for Chantix than for any other medication.
According to the report issued by the Institute for Safe Medicine Practices, the FDA received 1001 reports of serious adverse events associated with Chantix in the first three months of 2008. The only other drug that even came close to matching Chantix during the same period was heparin (779 side effect reports, including 238 possible deaths), which was the subject of a drug contamination scandal in 2008.
According to the Institute, the Chantix side effect reports included 50 deaths, 52 cases that may have involved various kinds of blackouts, and 15 adverse events that were linked to road traffic accidents.
This was the second report on Chantix side effects the Institute has issued this year. Researchers have reported that Chantix had been the subject of 100’s of reports of potential heart-rhythm disturbances, 100’s reports of possible movement disorders and 100’s reports of likely glycemic problems, including diabetes. At that time, there were also reports of traffic accidents linked to Chantix. The FDA confirms that there are reports of accidents, including road traffic accidents, after the use of Chantix. The FDA solution is to review the warnings to make them stronger in their wording. That’s it!
The FDA has already reviewed Chantix for a possible link to suicide and suicidal tendencies. The agency asked Pfizer to increase the safety information regarding suicidal thoughts and other psychiatric problems to the warnings of the Chantix prescribing information, and labeling. However, many consumer groups, including the group Public Citizen, want the FDA to go further and highlight the Chantix suicide risk with “black box warning” and this is the agency’s highest safety alert.
Many government agencies have issued rules restricting the use of Chantix. The Department of Transportation, the Federal Aviation Administration and the Department of Defense
Wow and stopping smoking is supposed to be healthy for you! It’s a no wonder people have such a problem stopping smoking. The ways recommended and suggested are all quite dangerous to your health and have some serious side effects. These are NOT smart ways to quit smoking.
“I Knew There Was A Smarter Way”
I knew there was a smarter way to stop smoking for those that desired to quit. The only way is a natural way without cravings, mood swings and all those legendary symptoms known as “cold turkey.” I knew there was a way because you hear of those people that can just put them down and walk away from them and never smoke again. I know because my Dad did just that years ago before I was born. If he could do it and many others could as well.
I knew there was something that was similar in the mindset of these people. I have seen people of all sizes and shapes and backgrounds do so in my stress clinic. These are people that did not go through all the withdrawal symptoms. I asked them all questions and I discovered some startling similarities. It was as if I had cracked the code. This was the mid 1990’s. At this same time my wife was smoking and had promised and tried to stop smoking unsuccessfully over and over. It seemed that stopping was easy, but staying stopped was another story.
My wife was raised a smoker like a dairy farmer raises their kids on milk. She grew up in a smoking home. Both her parents smoked and all 8 kids smoked too. Yes, 10 smokers in one house and you never run out of cigarettes. To say she was a hardcore smoker would be an understatement. She promised me she would stop smoking when we were married. She tried and just couldn’t do it. I reminded her especially after our two kids were born. She tried and she tried. I sent her to laser, she did patches, nicotine gum, she tried hypnosis and nothing worked.
I even told her that I would buy her dream car for her, a red corvette. She wholeheartedly agreed, got her car and then had a behind my back ”cigarette affair” sneaking around and making excuses so she could find time for her smokes. That’s the sad thing because she actually had everyone lying to me for her and she would sneak away for her deadly habit. That’s the funny thing because when you smoke, the smell to non-smokers is obvious no matter how often you brush, how much you wash, clean or gum you chew. You stink.
Before long, she was busted. I was devastated thinking of sickness and illness and watching my kids watch her mom destroy herself. Here I was doing stress therapy for others but needed some myself. It seemed nothing worked and nothing could. I had extinguished every option and she was still smoking. Most people would just give up or given in. That was never the option. There was no plan “B”.
There was a movie called “Lorenzo’s Oil” where there is no cure for his son’s disease, so Lorenzo goes and finds a cure himself. He does the research and has the passion because it is a matter of life and death. He has no choice, it was “do” or watch a loved one die.
“Never, EVER Give Up!”
My family meant the world to me and I have a motto, “Never, EVER Give Up”. I knew that some, like my Dad could drop the smokes and never look back. I was working with 1000s of clients and while doing stress therapy with them discovered many behavioral things about those that smoked. I asked them questions and they gave me answers about smoking, some successful and some not. I learned from all of them. I did research and furthered my studies. I studied mind development with some of the leaders in the field. I became a mind development course instructor, I certified in hypnosis and eventually a hypnosis instructor teaching and certifying others. I studied NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming a study of the mind and thought processes for change) and became Master of NLP certified.
I also studied and researched behavior to understand smoking and why some could and some could not stop. I studied acupuncture and became certified in electro- acupuncture. I studied laser and became a developer and pioneer in laser methods and techniques. I was already well versed in stress and relaxation methods but also studied them further and even did university course work on it.
I discovered exactly why people like my Dad were able to put them down and why others like my wife were having so much trouble. You see, it’s not that difficult when you understand the “beast”. Then you can understand the behavior. I also studied and researched the tobacco industry and how they have controlled the media, smoker’s beliefs and even controlled the medical profession. It was all part of the big picture. My real concern was how this big picture was going to ruin my family’s life. I was forced to figure it out.
One Day It All Came Together
One day it all came together. I put together a program that I suggested to my wife. She looked at it and thought it was incredibly simple. But it did consist of doing some specific things and sticking to it after the initial process.
